My Mother

My mother awakes
before the sun awakes
her eyes are half closed
by the late work caused
yet she does the same
for years as a child's game.
But complaints not
for she is similar to a dot
as a grass under the pines
but in my heart she shines
as a star in the dark night
yet she continues her fight
till the moment she sleeps
long after the sun sleeps.

Hold my Hands and Break the Walls

If the urge is
exactly from your heart
and honest is your love,
let me not bid farewell
to your beautiful smile.
For I know not
who else does give
a better smile than yours.
But assure
in the name of thy lord
your smile
is not born from the lips
but from the heart.
And tell me you've no caste,
no religion, no colour
nor status too
for love is a little boy
makes friends innocently
with whom his father rebels
and often forgets
social barriers around him.

But let me break all the walls
and reduce the gaps forever
for the love-river flows
restlessly to the sea beside.
Come, let us hold our hands
for a better tomorrow
where there are no Christians,
no Hindus, no Whites, no Blacks
neither rich, nor poor too
but only 'man and woman'
who lives and loves each other.

Mr. White and Me

Hello Mr. White,
Let me count the bricks
on the wall that stands
in between us:
One: a brick of religion
Two: a brick of caste
Three: a brick of class
Four: a brick of status
Five: a brick of food
Six: a brick of language
Seven: a brick of race...
Yes ! you're White!

Now Mr. White,
Let me count the branches
on the same tree that link
us each other:
One: a branch of blood
Two: a branch of emotion
Three: a branch of tear
Four: a branch of hunger
Five: a branch of death...
Yes ! we're Human!

OK. Mr. White,
Let me count the golden steps
I passed in the ladder that keeps
me in a better position than you:
One: a step of innocence
Two: a step of justice
Three: a step of truth
Four: a step of virtue
Five: a step of love
Six: a step of kindness...
Above all I am an Indian!
